June Newsletter: The Power of Music
June is here, and with it comes the season of music festivals, with Glastonbury being at the forefront. Music has a remarkable ability to influence our mood, and in turn, our mood can shape our music choices.
There’s no denying that a catchy tune can boost our spirits, while a more sombre melody might provide comfort during tough times. Angry music can help with an angry mood. Music affects us deeply, often releasing "feel-good" hormones that can enhance our mood. This funny relationship means that our playlists can often reflect how we’re feeling inside.
Reflecting on my own journey through divorce, I can clearly see how my music choices mirrored my emotional state. At the beginning, I was drawn to more melancholic and angry tunes, which echoed my feelings of loss, uncertainty and hurt. These songs seemed to understand what I was going through and offered a strange sense of comfort.
As time went on, my musical preferences shifted. I started listening to more upbeat and empowering songs. This change in my music taste was a clear sign that I was moving forward emotionally, even if I didn't realise it at the time.
Music was not just a background noise; it was a crucial part of my healing process. It helped me express my feelings, provided comfort, and eventually, gave me hope.
As we dive into this festival season, let’s celebrate the incredible power of music and how it connects us to our emotions.
Wishing you all a tuneful and joyful June!
