May Newsletter

MAY NEWSLETTER

I have been putting off sending a newsletter in the hope the weather might get warmer, but it seems not to be…

The unpredictability of our lovely weather is notorious!  But even I am finding this challenging to navigate.  We keep anticipating the warmth of spring and keep finding ourselves battling clouds, cold and rain!  But isn’t this rather like life?  Sometimes, despite our best-laid plans, things veer off course and we find ourselves in a downpour of setbacks.

When things are not going our way, it is easy to feel disheartened.  But, as with the weather, it is crucial to remember we cannot control these things – but we can control our response.  We may not have power over external circumstances, but we do have power in how we navigate and respond to them.

Perhaps instead of moaning about the rain, we should embrace it…

Let’s get those wellies out and splash through the puddles like children!  It can be a great release of frustration and even anger.  It might even make you laugh like a small child again.  Embracing the simple pleasures, such as a hot cup of tea on a cold day can be hugely rewarding. Just as the weather can't dampen our spirits if we choose not to let it, so too can setbacks lose their sting when we shift our perspective.

Try and take a moment to experience the small victories.  The unexpected kindness of a stranger or friend, the beauty of the flowers that have managed to bloom despite the awful weather.  If you can find these little bits of sunshine in this otherwise gloomy climate, they can be a real beacon of hope.  Gratitude can be hard to find when things feel dark and gloomy, but if you look hard enough, you can usually find a few small things to make you smile.

So, as May marches on with this crazy weather, let’s acknowledge that life’s storms are inevitable but our resilience in the face of them is what truly matters.  Find hope in the things we can control, find gratitude in the small things and then we will find the strength to weather any storms that come our way.
